Context: 

A public middle and high school district in New Jersey, sought to explore how AI could be integrated responsibly into teaching, learning, and operations. With no established framework for AI literacy or staff training, leaders needed a structured approach that would prepare teachers, support administrators, and directly engage students.

Actions: 

• District-wide professional development sessions on AI fundamentals and instructional use cases.

• Department-level coaching to align AI strategies with specific content areas.

• Creation of the AI Playbook—a comprehensive guide for staff to use in classrooms.

• Development of AI-integrated curriculum.

• Delivery of over 120 student-facing AI literacy lessons across grades 7–12.

• Design of asynchronous online learning modules for teachers and students.

• Provided  AI integrated 1 on 1 coaching support.

• A district AI Playbook with policies, classroom routines, and prompt design strategies.

• Unit maps and pacing guides for AI literacy integrated into existing curriculum.

• Scale: ~120 AI-integrated lessons delivered to ~2,400 student learning experiences in one school year.

• Capacity: Over 250 teachers received training and ongoing support through workshops and coaching.

• Curriculum: AI literacy lessons embedded into existing curriculum. Stand alone AI Literacy/Practice Curriculum developed.

• Sustainability: Online modules created a scalable path for future staff and student onboarding.
